Group Leaders,
Tonight we discussed having a meeting for all the group leaders after every class. I think that it is important that we all share our ideas on this issue. Some feel that it is a good idea and some don't. I am very interested in hearing everyones thoughts on this. What are you doing in your groups as far as meetings?
Another issue that came up is that the Purdue vs IU basketball game is Wednesday at 6:30 and people have already said that they will not be there. Again, I'd love to hear everyones thoughts and opinions on this. What do you plan on doing in your groups?
Topic of discussion tonight in class was "Feinberg's 5 Easy Steps". Someone mentioned that we as group leaders need to set goals as a group. How did everyone do this in their groups?
If I missed any issues/topics or if you have something that you feel needs to be addressed then please add them to this blog. We need to keep up communication and learn from each other as well. Have a Great Week!

Rick- Thank you for taking the initiative on this!
ReplyDeleteI am in favor of group leader meetings. I feel it is important to touch base to ensure we are all on the same page. While it may not be necessary to have them after every class (depending on the tasks at hand), we should have them at least once per week.
As far as group communication goes, I am utilizing a facebook group and email as means of communication. My group members have been very responsive to this and we feel it works for us.
I wanted to include my group in the development of our team goals. I invited anyone who could/wanted to attend to a meeting where we discussed what it is that we want to gain from this experience. We put our thoughts together to develop our goals/mission statement.
As far as the IU game goes, to put this into perspective, I have only missed one home basketball game this year. However, I will be in class on Wednesday and will stay after if necessary because of the responsibility to my group. I would not feel comfortable missing class when I have placed emphasis on the importance of attendance. I know some of my group members will be gone, but I have communicated my expectations as far as attendance goes and they will have to deal with their decisions. I agree with what Dr. Feinberg said at the beginning of the semester. You can choose to come or not, but you have to live with the consequences.
Rick thanks from me as well!
ReplyDeleteI believe group meetings would be a fabulous idea. I missed the one last week (because I didn't know we were meeting) and frankly am starting to feel left out of the loop in general, which can be very easy with this class.
Does any body have a group member that just doesn't really respond? If so how have you been dealing with them?
Thanks guys!
I think that have a meeting at least once a week would be a great idea. I have not gone to them because I was unaware that we were having them. I am sorry for my lack of attendance. I plan on attending all of them. I will be in class on Wednesday, I will stay after class if we decide to have our meeting that night.
ReplyDeleteHow is everyone dealing with missing grades? I have a few group members that are missing grades on balckboard.
Have a great day!!!
I would like to meet at least once a week. It really does depend on the tasks going on b/c sometimes a meeting probably wouldn't be necessary, but overall, I think it is important that we meet every week. Also, we never invited Feinberg to the meetings, but maybe we should. He might be able to give us some input on things that we are unsure of if we invite him to attend.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the IU game goes, I don't go to the games. If any of my group members decide to miss class for the game, that is their choice, but I will not count it as an excused absence. I have informed my group that they are expected to come to class, but I have been giving exceptions if they are sick...
Have a wonderful day!
I think that one meeting a week (maybe after class on Wednesday) would be ideal. Then we'd be able to talk about what we have learned and expereienced that week and get advice from each other. I've extended an invitation to Dr. Feinberg and asked if he'd like to join. I'll let you know what I find out.

As far as missing grades go I asked him about that and he said that we can change grades through him as long as we have proof that the assignment was completed!
